The IPHC’s Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Ga., hosted its 92nd annual homecoming weekend October 7th and 8th. An estimated 400 alumni and friends of the college attended this year’s festivities. The theme, “Growing Forward,” reflected an increase in enrollment, as well as campus expansion.
“This year’s homecoming was an exciting time to celebrate all that God is doing at Emmanuel. It was a great time of fellowship and a weekend full of activities. We are already making plans for next year,” said Vice-President for Development Brian James.
Ribbon-cutting ceremonies for the newest additions to the school’s grounds, Roberson Hall and the W. E. “Erby” Shaw Reading Plaza, were among the highlights of the weekend.
Officials also hosted the groundbreaking on the new athletic complex, which will house facilities for the school’s athletic programs, as well as a fitness center, food court and bowling alley.
There was also a special ceremony at the School of Christian Ministries Alumni Breakfast. Professor Paul Oxley was awarded the Visionary and Servant Leadership awards for his 30 years of service to the college. According to SCM Dean C. Tracy Reynolds, the Dr. G. Earl Beatty Servant Leadership Award is, "A prestigious lifetime achievement award honoring a career marked by outstanding servant leadership on campus, in the local church, and in the community." The Dr. Garnet Pike Visionary Leadership Award is nearly identical, but focused on visionary leadership: A prestigious lifetime achievement award honoring a career marked by outstanding visionary leadership on campus, in the local church, and in the community."
In addition to these special events, Emmanuel offered the activities many have come to expect, including the 64th annual Feast of Ingathering, the Golden Grads reunion and breakfast, and the annual Alumni and Friends lunch. Attendees also enjoyed a concert by Dove Award nominee Janet Paschal.
