The following is an update on Hurricane Floyd...

Eastern Virginia- as of 9/28/99 no change.

North Carolina

  • a. Food distribution continues to be moved out of the 5 disaster relief sites at Kinston First, Goldsboro First, Wallace PHC, Greenville First and Tarboro First. Disaster Recovery teams are doing limited clean up in the Wallace and Tarboro areas..continuing rains are hampering both clean up and re supply across the target area.
  • b. In Goldsboro, Kinston and Rocky Mount, FEMA officials have told local officials and owners of damaged home/property to hold off on clean up due to (1) safety (2) contamination and (3) determination as to whether the structure is salvageable.
  • c. The NC DRUSA coordinator has been notified of a potential move of two 40' trailers for food, household goods, washing machines etc out of Manchester, NH. The opportunity right now is to find suitable shortage sites in the NC conference to house the materials until they should be distributed. The gift was initiated from a lady in South Carolina who called Wiley Clark with the name of an organization that wanted to help,
  • d. Lesson Learned: Obtaining work sites for potential incoming disaster recovery teams is being hampered by continuing rain and rising water.
  • e. Calls to the NC DRUSA office offering help are increasing significantly.
