The following is an update of current reporting:

South Carolina- pending

Sonshine-no change

E. Virginia-No change

Mid-Atlantic- no change

North Carolina

  • Princeton- town (o/a 2300)under water- most buildings are probably going to have to be torn down.
  • Two Disaster Recovery Teams are in operation in Wilson.
  • Food is begin received in Tarboro, Rocky Mount and Kinston.Food shipments from Wilson First were sent to Kinston and Tarboro today..
  • SC Mobile Feeding Kitchen is operational in Kinston at the Kinston First PHC- by noon they had feed over 400.
  • Water on Tar river has gone down slightly- a number of areas in that area are still isolated- Food has to be flown in to the Grafton area.
  • Tarboro First PHC serving as food and clothing distribution center....and housing 75 to 150 people at night.

David Callahan, director of N.E.T. MultiMedia, and I had the opportunity to visit and film operations at Kingston First, Greenville First and Tarboro First today. In each case they were involved in the distribution of food and clothing--we were impressed at the number of local church people involved the operation.. Big concerns expressed at each location were:

    (1) what to expect when the water recedes- as there are a number of people still not accounted for.
    (2) When will people be allowed back to see what has happen to homes- concerns expressed as to contamination of those flooded areas.
    (3) long term recovery expected .

Lesson Learned from American Red Cross...they are expecting a high response of food-clothing-supplies etc coming into the area from around the country. Their hope is that we- in our efforts to help- will plan to target our churches in the target area and send relief supplies etc straight to a designated church that will then be able to get the materials out to those in the surrounding area. This will help to be more responsive and not add to the incoming supplies from outside the conference.. The were impressed with what we have be doing so far..
