The following is an update on disaster relief activities as of the above date:
Georgia Conference-
(a) Rev Robert Williams left this past Friday with a 24 foot refrigerated truck full of meats and perishables donated by Angel Foods Ministries. Both Angel Foods and the Family Worship Center in Danielsville are responsible for the food being ready for delivery. Deliver was to the Moss Point/Pascagoula area.
(b) Life Springs Resources has been responsible for the warehousing of commodities until they were transferred to trailers for shipment
(c) Emmanuel College students have been responsible for repacking and stacking of commodities in the Life Springs warehouse and in making calls to remind members throughout the conference on dates to get commodities to the distribution centers.
South Carolina Conference-
(a) the SC Mobile Feeding Kitchen will close down operations tomorrow afternoon, Thursday October 12th and return to Lake City, SC. Meals served were-Monday-1,636, Tuesday-1,759 and Wednesday 2,300. The total count of meals served is o/a 20,200.
(b) the MFK team from Life Springs PH had been on stand by to move to Lake Charles, but with the closing of the MFK tomorrow they will stand down.
Mid Atlantic Conference- the supply truck from the conference has departed for the distribution point at Faith Family PH in Watson, La.
North Carolina Conference-
(a) a trailer of specifically requested supplies has been loaded and sent out by Ministries of Mercy in Kinston, NC to be taken to the warehouse/distribution center at Miracle Place PH in Baker, La.
(b) The need for additional hygiene kits prepared by the Women’s Ministries of the conference is being requested again. Items have received very favorable response and the need is still there.
(c) Ministries of Mercy has been alerted that a large number of mattresses might soon be available for shipment to where needed.
Upper South Carolina Conference- the team from 96 PH had mechanical trouble with one of their vehicles- and left it to be fixed, renting another and continuing to Lake Charles, LA. This MFK team has been in service with the SC Mobile Feeding Kitchen and will be responsible to assit in taking down and packing the MFK tomorrow for its return to SC... They will stay on to assist the MidSouth site at Lake Charles.
Mid South Conference-
(a) the church at Lake Charles is in the process of tearing out the inside of the building. Eventually there will be a need for roof repair, sheet rook installation, carpentry, painting, electrical etc.
(b) the shelter at Faith Family is sheltering 28 people and sending supplies from its distribution point to Lake Charles and to Zachary, La.
(c) DRUSA Gordon Atwell has listed the following as needs both for the church at Lake Charles as well as the anticipated move into New Orleans: bottled water, boxed fruit juices(8 and 8 ounces), cleaning supplies (Clorox, liquid detergent, mops, brooms, buckets, shovels, cleaning cloths),non perishable foods, towels, baby diapers-wipes-food and formula, No clothes. Additionally, the Mid South conference DRUSA lists disaster relief teams for cleaning and debris clean up, mud out teams, and chain saw teams for the immediate timeframe.
(d) The conference is anticipating the location of a site in New Orleans to set up a distribution point/plant a church.
