The following is an update on disaster relief activities as of October 9, 2005:

Tennessee Valley Conference- recap- the conference now has 20 evacuees at the conference Retreat Center. This is down from 23. 11 are children who catch the bus to local schools every morning from the Retreat Center. One mother and her two children were able to be returned to Louisiana on Friday. Sunday services are held at the Center each Sunday and in addition some of the evacuees attend local churches as well.

Supplies are coming from the Louisiana Pastors Resource Council. (b) Life Springs PH relief team is on stand by (14th-21st) to assist either the MFK or the Revival PH in Lake Charles. (c)The MFK has been notified that they will probably close down on Friday.

Upper South Carolina Conference- the 96 PHC disaster relief team will deploy to Lake Charles on Monday and remain thru the 16th.

Cornerstone Conference- Mount Calvary disaster relief team with 20 personnel is on site at Moss Point, Ms scheduled to assist in either (a) the repair on two flooded houses that have been cleaned out, or (b) in debris clean up- the on site issue here is obtaining of “building permits” required by the city to do the repairs. If approved the team will do door repair and trim, sheet rock being hung and chain saw operations.

Alpha Conference- New Horizons Ministries PH has a team from Teen Challenge in Northern California coming with mattresses and bedding.

North Carolina Conference-(a) Ahoskie PH deployed debris clean up team to Moss Point, Ms on Saturday, (b) the Conference with its relationship with Ministries of Mercy is in communication with New Horizons Ministries for a shipment of supplies...

Mid Atlantic Conference- the conference has finished loading its truck and is expecting the trailer to be picked up in the next few days.

Mid South Conference-(a)Sanctuary PH is currently housing 18 ambulance personnel—and is expecting 32 members of the International Family Ministry from Colorado to arrive for work in the area, (b) the church in Angie (Bethel PH) still has need for chain saw and debris clean up teams. (c) Miracle Place PH now has 100 evacuees, but the Red Cross is expected to send another 100. FEMA has put a trailer park 2 miles from the church and many of the present on site evacuees are expected to be relocated to the trailer park. NOTE: - the disaster relief effort at Lake Charles is the main focus at the present with a need for (1) debris clean up teams, (2) chain saw teams, (c) house repair etc.

NOTE: Disaster Relief teams need to coordinate through DRUSA-1-888-867-4153 as to their assignment for work. Once the site has been established the team and the site leader need to talk by phone on what the assignment entails- directions to the site- information on what to bring (tools etc) and to confirm how long the team will be in operation. This pre-deployment conversation is critical for the success of the deployment.

NOTE: Campus Crusade has published a witness booklet designed specifically in ministering in wake of the hurricane disasters. Higher Ground, a mass-distribution magazine reaches out to the heart of the seeker affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. It is similar to the “Fallen but Not Forgotten magazine of 9/11. It offers words of comfort and a message of hope in Jesus. It is a resource that can be used while serving the afflicted is praying, caring and sharing ways.

DRUSA has shipped copies of the magazine to the PHC distribution points at Moss Point, Ms-Ocean Springs,Ms-Picayune,Ms-Watson,La-Zachary,La-Angie,La-- Baker,La and Lake Charles,La.
