The following is an update on activity relating to disaster relief as of 11/28/05:
1. Alpha Conference-
- (a) significant repair work has been accomplished over the past several weeks-see below under Cornerstone, North Carolina Tenn. Valley and Sonshine Conferences.
- (b) Two Christmas parties for children in the Moss Point area are being planned for December 18 and 21-see below under North Carolina and Cornerstone Conferences. The conference has been notified by the American Red Cross that they will cover the expenses to clean one of the church carpets and replace another that were damaged during the operation of the distribution point for DRUSA. Additionally they have indicated they will assist in covering the cost for repainting damaged areas and for the electrical bill for the distribution point operations. Still to be determined is the repair/replacement of the parking lot damage.
2.Cornerstone Conference-
- (a) the Conference is planning to jointly sponsor with the New Horizons Ministries PHC in Moss Point, Ms a Christmas party for the children in the Moss Point area on December 21 with gifts being provided by churches of the Cornerstone conference. 500 children are expected
- (b) Family Worship Center-a team of 8 were on site from Sunday through Saturday working on two houses that had not been touched since the Hurricane, doing debris clean up and sheet rock installation. Team also was involved in personal ministry on site.
3. Sonshine Conference- Blountstown PHC had a team of 10 men and women on site from Nov 19-23. They worked on 4 homes-- tearing out sheet rock, shingle replacement, painting and debris clean up. One of the homes was worked on in response to a request from the local Methodist church. Additionally they did debris clean up for the local Baptist church.
4. North Carolina Conference-
- (a) Ahoskie PHC-this is their 4th team to deploy and is currently on site in the Moss Point area.
- (b) Ahoskie PH is planning to jointly sponsor a Christmas party with New Horizons Ministries PH in the Moss Point area on December 18 with 200 children expected.
- (c) Tarboro First PHC is on site now with a team-their primary job is to assist in the leveling of a home that has been cleaned out and now awaits a floor to be installed. They also will be involved in re-roofing and sheet rock installation.
5. Mid South Conference-
- (a) Conference DRUSA Coordinator’s assessment of the conference area indicates that lower New Orleans and the St Bernard Parish are the two most critical areas in need of help.
- (b) Faith Family PHC is in need of clean up teams to get the church back into shape after serving as a distribution point.
- (c) The church in Lake Charles and a church owned by the conference that is leased out, are still in need of help for debris clean up and repair work.
6. Mississippi Conference- Victory Worship Center- is serving as a distribution center for a supply truck from Breakthrough PHC in Spartanburg, SC (blankets and clothes) and from Breakthrough Worship Center in Gaffney, SC- toys and bikes for Christmas.
7. Upper South Carolina Conference-
- (a) Breakthrough Worship Center PH has a truck load of bikes and toys for shipment to Ocean Springs, Ms for Christmas- the receiving church-Victory Worship Center will distribute the gifts through the school system in Ocean Springs, Ms
- (b) Restoration PHC has shipped a truck load of blankets and clothes to the Victory Worship Center in Ocean Springs, Ms and these are being distributed at this time.
