The following is a Disaster Relief Update as of 12/15/05:

Mississippi Conference- Initial assessment of applications being submitted for disaster relief funds are:

  • (a) two churches- Picayune and Pascagoula.
  • (b) Ten individual claims. DRUSA Coordinator is preparing an update on conference area to include (a) still areas along coast with out electricity, and (b) the statues on FEMA trailers that are going in to help those that are homeless.

Alpha Conference-(

  • a) New Horizons Ministries PHC “Katrina Christmas with Jesus #1”-December 18 being sponsored by New Horizons Ministries PHC and the Ahoskie PHC from North Carolina Conference. 234 children have signed up from throughout Jackson Country- which includes both Moss Point and Pascagoula. Sheriff Kent Harris from Tennessee and the Mayor from Erwin, Tn are guest-the Sheriff has sponsored several deployments of supplies and workers from Tn..
  • (b) New Horizons Ministries PHC “Katrina Christmas with Jesus #2”- sponsored by New Horizons Ministries PHC and the Cornerstone Conference. Over 400-500 presents have been donated by the Cornerstone conference and they will jointly sponsor this event. The excess presents will be taken to a neighboring church for distribution by them.. NOTE: in both of these events a drama will be presented that was written especially for that area and is based on the hurricane..
  • (c)The American Red Cross has indicated that they will reimburse New Horizons Ministries PHC o/a $20,000 for damage done to the church, as it served as a Emergency Distribution Center- also they tentatively agree on replacing the church parking lot which was damaged by the large trucks bringing supplies
  • (d)Teen Challenge-Northern California with Janice Adams will arrive at Moss Point on 12/17 with two 18 wheelers of furniture, mattresses and beds Both the New Horizons Ministries PHC and the Church of the Living God will share in the distribution of these items
  • (e) The Alpha Conference initial assessment on applications for financial assistance from DRUSA will be one church and 21 families.

Cornerstone Conference-

  • (a) Currently loading 400 + toys to be given as presents at the Alpha Conference “Katrina Christmas with Jesus” at Moss Point, Ms.
  • (b) Fountain of Life PHC is planning on sending a team of 10 in February to wherever the need is in the disaster conferences. Many of the team have been on "Home of Refuge" in Honduras. The team will be used to build and repair.

Tennessee Valley Conference- the conference has drawn down from 24 evacuees to only 8. Funds are being made available for fuel and utilities. A Christmas celebration for the evacuees is being planned. One of the evacuees is due in January and in that one family there then will be seven members..

Mid South Conference-

  • (a) There is still a need for a team to do clean up and minor maintenance and painting in the Faith Family PHC in Wallace, La.
  • (b) The Conference DRUSA has also been asked to work with the La Pastors PRC group, and he is now overseeing 500 workers in a Baptist project.

North Carolina Conference- the Ahoskie PHC team has completed its 5th deployment to Moss Point/Pascagoula- majority of work dealt with sheet rock hanging and shingle repair.

Great Plains Conference- the Conference will deploy a semi-truck of food and supplies to Lake Charles, La on December 26. Additionally a team will make the trip and provide sheetrock removal and replacement.., and be working in several senior citizens homes.
