The following is an Update on DRUSA activities as of 5:00 p.m. EDT‑September 28, 2004:

A. Current Situation‑

1. Tropical Depression Jeanne‑ at 11:00 a.m. EDT was moving Northeast into Virginia and continues to produce significant rain through the Appalachians and Mid Atlantic region..flood and flash flood warnings are in effect for parts of Central North Carolina...Southwestern Virginia..and Eastern Virginia....Lisa was located about 20 miles Southwest of Roanoke, Va...maximum sustained winds are near 30 mph...it is moving towards the Northeast.

2. Tropical Storm Lisa‑ At 5:00 p.m. AST the center was about 1390 miles West‑Southwest of the Azores..moving toward the North at 12 mph..maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph.

3.Florida Update‑ State Emergency Response Team:

a. Shelters‑ 60 general shelters housing 3,765 evacuees and 64 special needs shelters housing 3,368 evacuees.

b.Fatalities and Injuries‑ 3 confirmed deaths as a result of Jeanne.

c. Power Outages‑1,623,521 customers without power.

d. Flooding reported by many counties.

B. IPHC Items‑

1. The South Carolina Mobile Feeding Kitchen (MFK)‑ Rev Franklin Morris‑Administrator‑ reports  that on Monday 8,568 meals fed‑ new record‑ 1,700 were walk‑ins and 7,800 were distributed by American Red Cross ERVs. Today the American Red Cross had 20  corporate CEOs tour the MFK site and eat lunch with those on‑site..many favorable comments/praise were received by the MFK personnel. The local newspaper and television both are doing reports on the disaster... to include the work of the MFK...more latter..

2. Alpha Conference‑(a) stand by teams will be recruited for next week..(b)Alpha Conference has request food/supplies to be delivered to one of their churches (Community Worship Center)  for further distribution within that community. ‑New Horizon Conference will be the provider.

3. Cornerstone Conference‑ in anticipation of request for food/supplies the Cornerstone Conference  is planning to arrange a shipment of supplies to either Sonshine or Alpha Conferences based on requests.

4. Sonshine Conference‑ (a) Christian Heritage PHC MFK Support team is on stand by for deployment to Pensacola on Saturday. (b) a request is tentatively being developed for requesting a food/supply truck‑ Cornerstone Conference is the provider.

5. Items being requested are canned food, baby food, baby diapers, hand held can openers.

C. Lessons Learned‑ There are seven specialities around which Disaster Relief Teams (DRT) are built‑ one of those is the "Clean Up( Chain Saw and Debris)‑ which is  attached‑ from Chapter 8 of the DRUSA Manual..it's  part of materials that are provided to train/deploy a Clean Up DRT.
