The following is an Update on our Disaster Response as of 4:30 p.m. EDT, September 24, 2004: A. Current Situation‑ 1. Hurricane Jeanne‑Moving Westward at a slightly faster forward speed...a hurricane watch is in effect along the East Coast of Florida from Florida City to St. Augustine..it may be extended Northward later today..this means hurricane conditions are possible in the watch area in the next 36 hours...we are reminded that from sundown tonight until sundown Saturday is Yom Kipper..a solemn Jewish holiday..some of your Jewish neighbors in the watch and warning areas observing Yom Kippur will not be listening to radios or watching TV..and may not be aware of the hurricane situation...at 2:00 p.m. EDT the center of Jeanne was about 255 miles East of Great Abaco Island...Jeanne is moving toward the West near 12 mph ..forward speed is expected to increase.. this could bring the center of Jeanne near the Northwestern Bahamas on Saturday...maximum sustained winds are near 100 mph ...with higher gusts. Rainfall totals of 5 to 10 inches are possible along the track of Jeanne. 2. Tropical Depression Ivan..over Southwestern Texas..flood watches are in effect for portions of Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas..at 10:00 a.m. CDT it was located about 10 miles North of Livingston, TX and moving North‑North westward at 10 mph. Additional rainfall of 2‑3 inches with isolated amounts up to 5 inches are possible over portions of East Texas and Louisiana. 3. Tropical Storm Lisa‑ remains weak..at 11:00 a..m. AST the center was about 1295 miles West of the Cape Verde Islands moving toward the West‑Northwest near 8 mph with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph..it could regain tropical storm strength over the next day or so.. 4. Hurricane Karl‑racing Northward..at 11:00 a.m. AST the center was about 815 miles Northwest of the Azores..moving North at 40 mph with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph. See map of Karl attached. B. IPHC Items‑ 1. The South Carolina Mobile Feeding Kitchen (MFK)‑ fed 5,600 meals (this is a record for number of meals fed in one day for the MFK) of these 2,800 were disbursed by the American Red Cross ERVs ( 5 ERVs used‑ there will be 6 on Saturday)‑2,700 walk‑ins, and 100 were sent to Harvest Christian Center for disbursement. 2. Sonshine Conference‑ the MFK team from Destiny International remains with the MFK. A MFK support team from Christian Heritage is tentatively being organized for mid‑week. 3. South Carolina Conference‑ the team from LifeSprings remains with the MFK. The MFK 2d team will deploy on Monday for Pensacola. 4. North Carolina Conference‑ the Kinston First team remains with the MFK. 5. Alpha Conference‑ See attached a detailed report on the disaster assessment in the Alpha Conference.
