The following is an Update on our disaster response: A. Current Situation‑ 1. Hurricane Jeanne‑continues to move slowly Westward...At 2:00 p.m. EDT.. the center was about 440 miles East of Great Abaco Island moving West near 6 mph...maximum sustained winds remain near 105 mph..with higher gusts. Dangerous surf and rip currents..caused by large swells generated by Hurricane Jeanne..are possible along the Southeastern U.S. coast and Northwest and Central Bahamas for the next few days. 2. Tropical Storm Lisa‑no threat to land..at 11:00 a.m. AST the center was about 1215 miles West of the Cape Verde Islands...moving toward the West‑Southwest..near 3 mph..maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph. 3. Tropical Storm Ivan‑ weakening as it moves Northwest toward the Southwestern Louisiana and Upper Texas Coasts..center is about 50 miles Southeast of Cameron, Louisiana or 80 miles Southeast of Port Arthur, Texas..movement is toward the Northwest at near 8 mph...maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph. Rainfall accumulations of 5 to 10 inches..with isolated higher amounts are possible in the path of Ivan..Isolated tornadoes near the path of Ivan.. 4. Hurricane Karl‑ at 11:00 a.m. AST the center was about 980 miles West‑South‑west of the Azores..movement is toward the North at near 28 mph..maximum sustained winds are near 120 mph..weakening is forecast. B. IPHC Items: 1. The South Carolina Mobile Feeding Kitchen (MFK) remains on station in Pensacola, Fl‑meals fed on Wednesday were 4,500 with 2,400 distributed on 4 American Red Cross ERVs‑ 100 distributed out of Harvest Christian Center and 2,000 walk‑ins. Expect the number of meals to increase on Thursday's count. Meals are disbursed twice a day at o/a 10:00 a.m and 3:00 p.m. NOTE: Kenny Ward of the LifeSprings PHC in Columbia, SC build a shower for the MFK personnel to use. 2. North Carolina Conference‑ one team from Kinston First is with the MFK. 3. Georgia Conference‑Athens PHC has a man (cook) going to the MFK on Monday. Also the Superintendent will be on Greenville TV tonight with hostess Greta Campbell‑one the topics will be the damage in Franklin Springs and the DRUSA effort in Pensacola, Fl. 4. Alpha Conference‑ delayed initial report‑ Victory Christ Church suffered damage to the roof also Pleasant Plain PHC‑roof damage‑ and as a result inside the sanctuary‑flooded etc..still no power throughout the Brewton area.. Possible MFK support is being organized for this weekend‑and first of week time frame. Churches in the Perdido organized to provide food for the emergency crews working in that area. 5. South Carolina Conference‑ the MFK second team will deploy to Pensacola on Monday. The LifeSprings MFK team is with the MFK at this time. 6. Sonshine Conference‑ The Destiny International MFK support team will deploy Wednesday‑Sunday. 7. Cornerstone Conference‑ Letter of Appreciation received from the Winter Park Presbyterian Church for work done by Pat Kavanagh and his sons‑ Harvest Outreach. 8. Dominican Republic‑ Darrell Clowers reports that our national leader there has sent a list of needs, and info that they still haven't been able to contact all their people that are cut off by rivers and no power. Three of their members homes destroyed and five others lost roofs and other damages. C. Lessons Learned . Previously we noted the damage of Hurricane Floyd in North Carolina (1999‑ The DRUSA then‑Rev Danny Nelson noted that they were able to lend assistance to over 200 families in the conference and 9 churches..one of the items they used was an "Assessment Form" to list needs and then to verify them...and, once monies were received‑ the list was used to determine allocation of financial support to be rendered. See attached an example of that form‑ it is now a Draft Assessment Form that will be finalized and used by DRUSA. Recommend you file this in your Conference DRUSA file...
