DAY OF GLOBAL PRAYER AND FASTING
A vital part of being a disciple of Christ is prayer and fasting. The International Pentecostal Holiness Church is asking every church and member to assemble before the Lord for a Day of Global Prayer and Fasting on the second Wednesday in January. Fasting that God approves is far more than voluntary abstinence from food - or anything else precious to us, such as time or money. Yes, the fasting that God approves will challenge our hearts and change our lives. It calls for a deliberate sacrifice, but benefits of that sacrifice will stretch far beyond oneself. The second Wednesday in January should be a triumphant day of worship and prayer. Following is an abbreviated guide:
An Abbreviated Guide for the IPHC Day of Global Prayer and Fasting
- Begin the day with praise and worship; sing to the Lord.
- Read select Scriptures that declare the praise of God.
- Share brief devotional thoughts about the worship of God.
- Spend time, individually and corporately, praying for your conference, churches, and nation, including ministry to family, neighbors, workers, and friends.
- Pray specifically for people who are lost.
- Let your heart be filled with worship; close the day in triumphant praise of the Mighty God!
“And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me” (John 12:32).
JOIN THE FIRST FRIDAY FAST!
Christian leaders around the world have been observing the first Friday of each month as a day of fasting and prayer since the days of John Wesley. We want to join the First Friday Fast as a monthly day of corporate fasting and prayer by IPHC members around the world. It is a day to humble ourselves as we seek God together as a spiritual army linked in prayer for our outreach objectives and for the specific nation each of us calls home.
Make the first Friday of each month a day of prayer and fasting for the success of our global evangelism efforts. Intercede for your own nation and the accomplishment of designated goals set by the denomination, conferences, and local churches.
Suggestions for First Friday Fast involvement:
- PRAY as a single believer, as a husband and wife team, with a prayer partner, in a prayer group, as a family, a church fellowship, or in community gathering.
- FAST as a biblical way of “humbling” yourself, perhaps by skipping certain meals, eating only plain foods, drinking only juice or water, or by observing a 24-hour total fast.
- The Bible shows that when God's people humble themselves, unite together, pray fervently, and fast in agreement, an incredible exponential prayer potential is released. The focus of this prayer potential is to honor God's desire and mandate (2 Chronicles 7:14; 1 Timothy 2:1-4) as we cry out for His help in defeating all our enemies (Isaiah 41:10, 13; Psalm 108:13, TLB).
- Let's believe together for God to strengthen our corporate potential to achieve global commitments for His honor. Let's trust Him to continue to empower us as we move forward to fulfill our calling in Christ Jesus.
MISSION 21 PRAYER WATCHES
Mission 21 Prayer Watches are monthly 12-hour prayer vigils. Local churches keep these prayer vigils by praying for the nations assigned to their conferences. (See list below.)
Scripture challenges us to become “new sharp-toothed threshing sledges,” pulverizing mountains of satanic resistance and opposition (Isaiah 41:15). Scripture also encourages us to advance God's kingdom through intercession, asking for the nations as our inheritance (Psalm 2:8).
Thus, Mission 21 Prayer Watches are a way to honor God's Word. The goal is to fill the entire 12-hour prayer vigil with fervent, focused intercession. It is suggested that each church keep the same day (or date) each month, from 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. Individuals can sign up for any specific part of the day - as for 15 minutes, 30 minutes, one hour, etc. Provide opportunities for children and youth to be involved. Also provide information that might be helpful to the people who are praying.
By keeping the Mission 21 Prayer Watch, we are forming a global WIN prayer chain through our local churches so all aspects of our mission to the nations might be continually bathed in prayer across every time zone, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Continue to honor corporately a prophetic word spoken over the IPHC:
You are to be strategic, informed intercessors who know the nations… From this time forth, according to the Word of the Lord, you are to be a people who go to and fro in the earth with nations in your heart...You are a doorway to the nations.
