Acts 2:42-47 provides a powerful pattern of discipleship:
- A commitment to Scripture
- A commitment to one another
- A commitment to prayer
- A commitment to praise and worship
- A commitment to outreach
- Look at the result: “added to the church daily.”
The Ephesians model in Acts is a good example for effective formation and development of a discipling community:
- Spirit-filled
- Period of time in focused study on the Kingdom of God
- Evangelized the entire area
- Miracle ministry
- The Word of God grew mightily and prevailed.
Paul gives another model in I Thessalonians 1:5-8:
- Preaching: demonstration of the power of the Spirit
- Pattern: lived among you (modeled the Christian life before them)
- Imitation: You became imitators of us (Replacement word for disciple).
- Reproduction: “And you became a model for all believers in Macedonia and Achaia.”
