APOSTOLIC EXAMPLES OF DISCIPLESHIP

Acts 2:42-47 provides a powerful pattern of discipleship:

  • A commitment to Scripture
  • A commitment to one another
  • A commitment to prayer
  • A commitment to praise and worship
  • A commitment to outreach
  • Look at the result: “added to the church daily.”

The Ephesians model in Acts is a good example for effective formation and development of a discipling community:

  • Spirit-filled
  • Period of time in focused study on the Kingdom of God
  • Evangelized the entire area
  • Miracle ministry
  • The Word of God grew mightily and prevailed.

Paul gives another model in I Thessalonians 1:5-8:

  • Preaching: demonstration of the power of the Spirit
  • Pattern: lived among you (modeled the Christian life before them)
  • Imitation: You became imitators of us (Replacement word for disciple).
  • Reproduction: “And you became a model for all believers in Macedonia and Achaia.”
